Learning objectives

• Gain an understanding of Quality Management System (QMS) operations as defined by ISO 9001

PECB ISO 9001 Certification Path and Requirements

Following a successful completion of the examination, you may apply for one of four professional credentials based on your level of experience. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and agreeing to the PECB Code of Ethics.

1. Certified ISO 9001 Provisional Auditor

Suitable for new entrants who have mastered the theoretical aspects of quality management but lack practical field experience.

• Examination Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

• Professional Experience: Not required

• Audit/Project Experience: Not required

• Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics

2. Certified ISO 9001 Auditor

Intended for professionals with foundational experience in quality management and auditing.

• Examination Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

• Professional Experience: A total of two years, including at least one year specifically in Quality Management

• Audit/Project Experience: A minimum of 200 hours of eligible project and audit activities

• Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics

3. Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor

The standard credential for experienced professionals fully qualified to plan, execute, and lead Quality Management System (QMS) audit teams.

• Examination Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

• Professional Experience: A total of five years, including at least two years specifically in Quality Management

• Audit/Project Experience: A minimum of 300 hours of eligible project and audit activities

• Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics

4. Certified ISO 9001 Senior Lead Auditor

The highest level of certification for expert practitioners with extensive long-term leadership experience in managing complex QMS audits.

• Examination Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

• Professional Experience: A total of ten years, including at least seven years specifically in Quality Management

• Audit/Project Experience: A minimum of 1,000 hours of eligible project and audit activities

• Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics

Note on Eligible Audit Activities: To satisfy PECB requirements, your recorded hours must include active involvement in the assessment process, such as audit planning, program management, document review, on-site auditing, drafting nonconformity or final reports, and leading audit teams.
